Analysis of virtual resource allocation for cloud-RAN based systems. Rakovic, V., Ichkov, A., Grosheva, N., Atanasovski, V., & Gavrilovska, L. Proceedings of the 2017 20th Conference on Innovations in Clouds, Internet and Networks, ICIN 2017, 2017. Publisher: IEEE ISBN: 9781509036721doi abstract bibtex Contemporary radio access networks, are commonly utilizing static configuration and deployment, and are inefficient in handling any spatio-temporal fluctuations of the traffic demand. Cloud RAN represents a novel centralized technology based on virtualization technology that can efficiently addresses the problems of legacy networks. Cloud RAN facilitates high data rates and high network and PHY layer adaptability across software defined wireless networks. This paper, presents a C-RAN demo platform capable of efficient virtualization of different types of wireless technologies. The presented demo platform utilizes commercial and open-source solutions such as OpenStack and GNU Radio. The main goal of the work is to exploit the developed demo platform in order to evaluate the behavior and performance of GSM and LTE like technologies with respect to their impact on the C-RAN performances. The performance analysis results prove the applicability of the developed C-RAN demo platform and provide significant insight in the behavior and performance of the analyzed wireless technologies, with respect to their virtual cloud resource requirement, for a set of different scenarios.
