Indian adaptations to the forest-grassland boundary of Manitoba and Saskatchewan, 1650-1821: some implications for interregional migration [link]Paper  doi  abstract   bibtex
An attempt is made to reconstruct the seasonal scheduling of activities and patterns of movement of the tribal groups who lived in or adjacent to the parkland zone. The impact which the fur trade had upon the ecosystems of these groups is also considered. The tentative conclusion drawn from this analysis is that the grassland-forest boundary did not so much set limits as offer opportunities to the Indians, being in many respects actually the core of a larger region. When this fact is more fully appreciated it should be possible to gain a better insight into the processes of migration and cultural change in this region.
