The semantic web is intrinsically constrained by its environment. These constraints act as a bottlenecks and limit the performance of applications in various ways. Examples of such constraints are the limited availability of memory, disk space, or a limited network bandwidth. But how do these bounds influence Semantic Web applications? In this paper we propose to study the Semantic Web as part of a constrained environment. We discuss a framework where applications adapt to the constraints in its environment.
