Paradigmatic, historical and epistemological coordinates of Information Science: a systematization. [link]Paper  abstract   bibtex
Introduction. This work tries to analyse and to establish the historical and epistemological coordinates of Information Science, which, in search of a definitive solution to the problems distinguish it, has evolved from the explicit validation of the objectivity of the knowledge, in the first stage, to the acceptance of the subject as a social being who constructs knowledge in close relation with its context and through processes of reflection and interpretation. Methodology and analysis. A chronological division in three stages, dominated by the paradigms was used successively as physical, mental and social departure points, and each was analysed through a series of qualitative variables. The analysis was carried out by means of a literature review. Results. The approach from the historical and epistemological perspectives allowed one to clarify the substantial differences that indicate a cyclical reconstruction of the theoretical-conceptual pillars of the discipline. These differences allowed the identification of those distinguishing aspects central to the relationship subject-object-context, and tie in with the social paradigm and its emergence. Conclusions. If the physical paradigm is primarily responsible for shaping Information Science as a discipline, to establish the theoretical foundations and methodological foundations; the cognitive paradigm, by focusing on the subject as an individual, is a reflection of social change and is intellectually more radical. For its part, the social paradigm transcends the narrow framework and methodological tool that supports the cognitive paradigm, the emphasis on the historicity of all social phenomena, and the persistent questioning of all the subjective elements in the theoretical models.
