Abstract: This paper is a brief description of the activities of Te Ako Hikohiko, an eLearning Research project which seeks to investigate new techniques in learning the Maori Language online, particularly for formal speechmaking (Mihimihi). Along with new techniques such as the use of mobile technologies, Te Ako Hikohiko seeks to describe a model for developing online teaching environments that supports traditional cultural practices.
