Schemata: The building blocks of cognition [link]Paper  abstract   bibtex
Attempts to give the reader unfamiliar with schemata a means to interpret the increasing number of papers employing these conceptualizations. The paper shows the domains to which the concept of a schema has been applied and the heuristic value of thinking about psychological and educational problems in terms of schemata. More detailed accounts of schemata and examples of their applicability can be found in the cited papers. Although the development of schema-based theories is in its infancy and these ideas have not yet proved their usefulness, it is believed that they offer the promising leads for those interested in the problems posed when psychological theories are applied directly to educationally relevant domains.
