Ignorance denotes a deficiency. It usually refers to a lack of knowledge, information, or understanding. In social science research ignorance can have at least three additional meanings: ignorance can be described as the driver of scientific research, be depicted as an integral part of social life, and be used as a heuristic model to analyze the normative aspects of a given society.
