X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) studies at the L 3 Pt edge for the Pt(II) complexes [Pt(SONC 5 H 4 ) 2 ] and [Pt 4 (SONC 5 H 4 ) 5 Cl 3 ] are presented. The variation of coordination charge of Pt, depending on the electron withdrawing effect of the ligands and coordination geometry, is discussed.
