Resource Interdependence: The Relationship between State Agencies and Nonprofit Organizations [link]Paper  doi  abstract   bibtex
\textlessp\textgreaterWhat is the relationship between public sector agencies and nonprofit service providers? In light of the increasing sharing of responsibilities between nonprofits and public agencies, Judith Saidel explores how participants in the relationship perceive the nature of their association. Using a resource dependence framework, Saidel interviewed nonprofit and state agency managers in New York State who worked together in four distinct service areas (arts, health, mental retardation and developmental disabilities, and human service). Her analysis indicates strong and symmetrical interdependence across sectors and service areas. The implications of these findings are briefly discussed as well as the need for more research on the nature of the interactions between state agencies and nonprofit service providers.
