I will not discuss the view which I share with many others,' the view that what one remembers in the cases mentioned is simply the events, incidents, one's actions and experiences, the people, places and things. This is not a philosophical theory, or not, at least, a theory that needs to be defended here. I will be principally concerned with the inadequacies of the view that one's present memory is (always) just previous knowledge
