Whole-lake eutrophication experiments with phosphorus, nitrogen and carbon [pdf]Paper  abstract   bibtex
Since the beginning of the Experimental Lakes Project in 1968, our attention has been largely focussed on eutrophication and related problems. Whole-lake experiments with additions of P, N and C have illuminated a number of factors of considerable importance to the management of eutrophication. The purpose of this paper is to describe several of these experiments and their implications. Due to spatial limitations, the reader is referred to papers in the Journal of the Fisheries Resreach Board of Canada 28 (2) 1971, 30 (10) 1973, and 31 (5) 1974 for background information on the lakes. All lakes are located in Precambrian Shield, surrounded by boreal forest, and were totally unaltered before our experiments were started.
