Outdoor Wilderness Education: Therapeutic Intervention with Institutionalised Adolescents. Scott, J. Australian Social Work, 44(3):31–36, 1991.
Paper doi abstract bibtex This paper was written as part of a Bachelor of Social Work requirement on Groupwork in the final semester of 1989, at the University of Melbourne. There currently exists a greater acceptance of welfare agencies in Australia using outdoor education and wilderness programs as a therapeutic tool. The past two decades have witnessed a considerable growth of programs prepared to offer the use of outdoor/wilderness experiences, and agencies willing to 'experiment' with alternative ways of dealing with problematic groups. This paper describes one particular experience. “John Scott completed his social work qualifications in 1989 and is currently working with Margaret Hamilton In the Department of Community Medicine at the University of Melbourne. His work involves evaluation research of the Odyssey House Therapeutic Community in Melbourne, looking at those factors which affect treatment John remains interested in outdoor education and has worked as an Outward Bound Instructor. © 1991, Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
