[::Taxonomic Notes] Betula apoiensis, a species listed previously as threatened, is a probable local variant of B. gmelinii [::Range Description] This species is found in Russia (Baikal, east Siberia), Mongolia, Korea, on Mount Apoi on the Japanese island of Hokkaido and China. [::Countries] Native:China (Heilongjiang, Liaoning, Nei Mongol); Japan (Hokkaido); Korea, Democratic People's Republic of; Korea, Republic of; Mongolia; Russian Federation (Buryatiya, Chita, Irkutsk, Krasnoyarsk, Yakutiya) [::Population] There is no detailed population information available for this species. [::Habitat and Ecology] This species occurs as a shrub with one or more stems to one metre, with the main stems becoming horizontal.
