Black Lives Matter and Music has been concerned with a particular historical moment of racial injustice, struggle, and activism in the United States. Throughout history, there have been similar moments like this because of what Langston Hughes called “dreams deferred.” The promise of equality and justice for all, pledged in the Constitution, has never been fully realized. In other countries, forms of injustice are reflected through tribal, religious, class, gender, and language differences.
