A modeling study of rainfall rate-reflectivity relationships. [pdf]Paper  abstract   bibtex
Power law models relate radar reflectivity to rainfall rate. Two interrelated problems are associated with these models: (1) estimation of parameters and (2) assessment of the accuracy of rainfall rate estimates. A statistical model provides explicit representations of power law model parameter estimates and the error of rainfall rate-reflectivity relationships in terms of raindrop processes. Empirical analyses are carried out using drop size data from a number of sites. Detailed analyses use a data set from Mooney Gap at Coweeta.
