Limit and shakedown analysis for plastic safety of complex structures [link]Paper  abstract   bibtex
Limit and shakedown theorems are exact theories of classical plasticity for the direct computation of the load carrying capacity under constant and varying loads. They are implemented in a general purpose FEM program in a way capable of large-scale analysis. The method deviates from the current approach in several aspects: No load history is used, stresses and strains are not calculated, and the safety factor is obtained from a mathematical optimization problem. This reduces considerably the necessary technological input data, the computing time, and the numerical error.
