[Excerpt] Betula michauxii is a characteristic species of wet peatlands in eastern Canada. There are no known threats that are or will adversely affect this species in the foreseeable future. It is assessed as Least Concern. [::Common Name(s)] [::]English - Newfoundland dwarf birch, Michaux's dwarf birch [::]French - Bouleau de Michaux [::Range Description] Betula michauxii occurs from Quebec and the maritime provinces of Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick, and the French isles of St. Pierre and Miquelon.\textasciitilde [::Countries] Native:Canada (Labrador, New Brunswick, Newfoundland I, Nova Scotia, Québec); Saint Pierre and Miquelon [::Population] Betula michauxii is a common species across its range in eastern Canada. However, there are no hard data on population numbers due to it not being an important commercial species.\textasciitilde [::Habitat and Ecology] A shrub with upright habit up to one metre in height, although given as to 0.5 m in wild. It is commonly found in sphagnum bogs, fens, edges of pools of water and wet peaty meadows. [::Use and Trade] There is no commercial use of Betula michauxii.
