"Mimesis" and "Xing," Two Modes of Viewing Reality: Comparing English and Chinese Poetry [link]Paper  abstract   bibtex
This article discusses the distinction between Chinese and English poetry. The primordial distinction is the dominance of "mimesis" in the English tradition and that of "Xing" in the other. Mimesis is a method of conceptualizing reality in terms of hierarchial thinking that is unique by its anthropocentric privileging of human beings over external nature.
