The analysis includes three phases: (1) characterization of ecosystem nutrient budgets for several contrasting forest ecosystems in different physiographic regions of the United States; (2) examination of nutrient pools contained within ecosystem compartments, and annual transfer rates among compartments; and (3) elaboration of the conceptual model framework which has guided ecosystem research at Coweeta Hydrologic Laboratory, and illustration of how specific data sets can be used to determine important management needs.},
