	abstract = {The purpose of this study was to compare and contrast a seasonal short duration grazing (SDG) treatment, using a ten-paddock cell grazed in sequence by a single herd, and a seasonal continuous grazing treatment.  A homogeneous tobosa (\textit{Hilaria mutica}) range located on the Jornada Experimental Range in southern New Mexico was managed under these methods during the 1980 and 1981 grazing seasons.     The SDG paddock had significantly higher tobosa composition compared to the continuous paddock during both years (P{\textless}0.05)....  Grouping paddocks according to size indicated that small paddocks had significantly more plants which were defoliated compared to the two large SDG paddocks and the continuous paddock during both years (P{\textless}0.05)....  The degree and amount of change in height imposed on tobosa by grazing animals varied between treatments during both years....  There was no significant difference between treatments with regard to average daily gains of livestock during both years (P{\textless}0.05).},
