  abstract = {This paper aims to describe a project conducted in the region of Emilia Romagna by a small team of researchers at the School of Advanced Languages for translators and interpreters at the university of Bologna in Italy 1 . The data from the project have been collected through interviews and two types of structured questionnaires, the first one addressing service providers, and the second one community interpreters in the health sector. In the next phase of the project, the judicial and social-services sectors will be targetted, thus covering the three prototypical community interpreting user areas. So far, questionnaires have been distributed and collected in Rimini (100,000 inhabitants), Forl{\`{\i}} (80,000 inhabitants) and Riccione (60,000 inhabitants) and are being handed out in the hospitals of Ravenna, Cesena and Bologna},
