abstract   bibtex
This chapter points to the "congruity in the two sides' thinking" of traditional and human security studies. It first explains the key concepts of traditional security, then goes on to discuss the points of human security, and discusses their "potential linkages": (1). conflict prevention; (2). "the desire to reduce the vulnerability of the security subject;" and (3). "the focus on the problem of who is to be governed and who is to be secured." The paper includes caveats of bringing together these two areas and concludes by considering it within the Asian context (as it is a "fascinating and dynamic laboratory for evaluating how the gospel of individual worth will fare as the challenges of most concern to human security propoents close in on incumbent Asian elites.")
