Convergence Model Between the IDTV Brazilian Middleware and Home Networking Software Platforms [link]Paper  doi  abstract   bibtex
The extension of the STBs (Set-Top Boxes) functionality for service management of electronic devices in Home Networks brings a host of new applications for the interconnected home environment. In this work the convergence between Digital TV and Home Network is studied from the point of view of software specifications for two environments. Models like MHP (Multimedia Home Platform) middleware and the OSGi framework (Open Services Gateway Initiative) are analyzed in order to integrate them under the same environment. After that, we will identify the most relevant features to the definition of a model compatible with the Brazilian Digital TV, using the Ginga middleware and the OSGi. We present a component model defined under the Ginga-OSGi layer which modifies the core elements of the two platforms in a minimal way. This model explores the new features offered by Ginga, related to both the procedural part (Ginga-J GEM compatible) and the declarative part (Ginga-NCL). At last, we built scenarios using the created platform.
