A Wide Field Immersive Display for the Study of Locomotor Behaviour. Zhao, J. & Allison, R. S. In CAN CAPnet-CPS Satellite Meeting- Action & Perception: Cognition, Coding and Clinical Populations. 2016.
abstract   bibtex
We describe a unique new wide-field immersive stereoscopic environment (WISE) that can render real-time, interactive and immersive stereoscopic simulations. This recently constructed virtual environment allows for presenting seamless, high-resolution, high-contrast, binocular photorealistic renderings of challenging environments over the entire visual field. The display can present complex terrain with naturalistic texture and is equipped with motion tracking as well as linear and (soon) rotary treadmills (or the subject can be seated). Based on these capabilities we can present variations in simulated walking surfaces, potential obstacles, or interception targets and determine how these influence locomotor behaviour. We will describe experiments assessing the utility of mechanical repositioning interfaces as a locomotion interface.
