The POM pool experiences thus considerable spatial and temporal variability. In order to better understand this variability, the present study employs statistical multivariate analyses to investigate links between POM composition and environmental forcings for a panel of twelve coastal systems distributed along the three maritime regions of France and monitored weekly to monthly for 1 to 8 years. At multi-system scale, two main gradients of POC composition have been identified: a ‘Continent-Ocean’ gradient associated with hydrodynamics, sedimentary dynamics and depth of the water column, and a gradient of trophic status related to nutrient availability. At local scale, seasonality of POC composition appears to be station-specific but still related to part of the above-mentioned forcings. A typology of systems was established by coupling spatial and temporal variability of POC composition. Four groups were highlighted: (1) the estuarine stations where POC composition is dominated by terrestrial POM and driven by hydrodynamics and sedimentary processes, (2) the oligotrophic systems, characterized by the contribution of diazotrophs due to low nutrient availability, and the marine meso/eutroph systems whose POC composition is (3) either deeply dominated by phytoplankton or (4) dominated by phytoplankton but where the contribution of continental and benthic POC is not negligible and is driven by hydrodynamics, sedimentary processes and the height of the water column. Finally, the present study provides several insights into the different forcings to POM composition and dynamics in temperate coastal systems at local and multi-system scales. Our hypothesis follows the remarks of scholars who have stressed that the central theme in the discourse of such parties is not the staging of an antagonism between a ‘people’ and an ‘elite’, but rather the opposition of an ethnic community with its alleged dangerous ‘others’. In fact, LOS data show a highly right-skewed, discrete distribution in which most of the observations are tied; this violates the assumptions of most statistical tests. OBJECTIVES: To estimate the type I and type II errors associated with the application of 12 different statistical tests to a series of LOS samples. METHODS: The LOS distribution was extracted from an exhaustive French national database of inpatient stays. The type I error was estimated using 19 sample sizes and 1,000,000 simulations per sample. The type II error was estimated in three alternative scenarios. For each test, the type I and type II errors were plotted as a function of the sample size. RESULTS: Gamma regression with log link, the log rank test, median regression, Poisson regression, and Weibull survival analysis presented an unacceptably high type I error. In contrast, the Student standard t test, linear regression with log link, and the Cox models had an acceptable type I error but low power. Immunization (RVI) has been available since 2006, and the Federation of International Societies of Gastroenterology Hepatology and Nutrition (FISPGHAN) identified RVI as a top priority for the control of diarrheal illness. A FISPGHAN working group on acute diarrhea aimed at estimating the current RVI coverage worldwide and identifying barriers to implementation at local level. Methods A survey was distributed to national experts in infectious diseases and health-care authorities (March 2015-April 2016), collecting information on local recommendations, costs and perception of barriers for implementation. Results Forty-nine of the 79 contacted countries (62\% response rate) provided a complete analyzable data. RVI was recommended in 27/49 countries (55\%). Although five countries have recommended RVI since 2006, a large number (16, 33\%) included RVI in a National Immunization Schedule between 2012 and 2014. The costs of vaccination are covered by the government (39\%), by the GAVI Alliance (10\%) or public and private insurance (8\%) in some countries. However, in most cases, immunization is paid by families (43\%). Elevated cost of vaccine (49\%) is the main barrier for implementation of RVI. High costs of vaccination (rs = -0.39, p = 0.02) and coverage of expenses by families (rs = 0.5, p = 0.002) significantly correlate with a lower immunization rate. Limited perception of RV illness severity by the families (47\%), public-health authorities (37\%) or physicians (24\%) and the timing of administration (16\%) are further major barriers to large- scale RVI programs. Conclusions After 10 years since its introduction, the implementation of RVI is still unacceptably low and should remain a major target for global public health. Barriers to implementation vary according to setting. Nevertheless, public health authorities should promote education for caregivers and health-care providers and interact with local health authorities in order to implement RVI.Copyright © 2017 Elsevier Ltd}, language = {English}, number = {12}, journal = {Vaccine}, author = {Lo Vecchio, A. and Liguoro, I. and Dias, J. This analysis aimed to compare the cost-effectiveness of I-M pemetrexed with those of other I-M regimens used for the treatment of patients with advanced nsqNSCLC in the French health-care setting. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A previously developed global partitioned survival model was adapted to the France-only setting by restricting treatment sequences to include 12 I-M regimens most relevant to France, and incorporating French costs and resource-use data. Following a systematic literature review, network meta-analyses were performed to obtain hazard ratios for progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) relative to gemcitabine + cisplatin (induction sequences) or best supportive care (BSC) (maintenance sequences). Modeled health-care benefits were expressed as life-years (LYs) and quality-adjusted LYs (QALYs) (estimated using French EuroQol five-dimension questionnaire tariffs). The study was conducted from the payer perspective (National Health Insurance). Cost- and benefit-model inputs were discounted at an annual rate of 4\%. RESULTS: Base-case results showed pemetrexed + cisplatin induction followed by (→) pemetrexed maintenance had the longest mean OS and PFS and highest LYs and QALYs. Costs ranged from €12,762 for paclitaxel + carboplatin → BSC to €35,617 for pemetrexed + cisplatin → pemetrexed (2015 values). Gemcitabine + cisplatin → BSC, pemetrexed + cisplatin → BSC, and pemetrexed + cisplatin → pemetrexed were associated with fully incremental cost-effectiveness ratios (ICERs) of €16,593, €80,656, and €102,179, respectively, per QALY gained versus paclitaxel + carboplatin → BSC. All other treatment sequences were either dominated (ie, another sequence had lower costs and better/equivalent outcomes) or extendedly dominated (ie, the comparator had a higher ICER than a more effective comparator) in the model. Sensitivity analyses showed the model to be relatively insensitive to plausible changes in the main assumptions, with none increasing or decreasing the ICER by more than {\textbackslash}textasciitilde€20,000 per QALY gained. CONCLUSION: In the absence of direct comparative trial evidence, this cost-effectiveness analysis indicated that of a large number of I-M sequences used for the treatment of patients with nsqNSCLC in France, pemetrexed + cisplatin → pemetrexed achieved the best clinical outcomes (0.28 incremental QALYs gained) versus paclitaxel + carboplatin → BSC.}, language = {eng}, journal = {ClinicoEconomics and outcomes research: CEOR}, author = {Taipale, K. and Winfree, K. Eleven systems (two littoral systems, eight embayments and semi-enclosed systems and one estuary) distributed along the three maritime façades of France were studied for two to eight years in order to quantify the relative contribution of organic matter sources to the surface-water POM pool in coastal systems. This study was based on carbon and nitrogen elemental and isotopic ratios, used for running mixing models. The POM of the estuary is dominated by terrestrial material (93\% on average), whereas the POM of the other systems is dominated by phytoplankton (84\% on average). Nevertheless, for the latter systems, the POM composition varies in space, with (1) systems where POM is highly composed of phytoplankton (≥93\%), (2) systems characterized by a non-negligible contribution of benthic (8–19\%) and/or river (7–19\%) POM sources, and (3) the Mediterranean systems characterized by the contribution of diazotroph organisms (ca. 14\%). A continent-to-ocean gradient of river and/or benthic POM contribution is observed. Finally, time series reveal (1) seasonal variations of POM composition, (2) differences in seasonality between systems, and (3) an inshore-offshore gradient of seasonality within each system that were sampled at several stations. Spatial and seasonal patterns of POM composition are mainly due to local to regional processes such as hydrodynamics and sedimentary hydrodynamic (e.g. resuspension processes, changes in river flows, wind patterns influencing along-shore currents) but also due to the geomorphology of the systems (depth of the water column, distance to the shore). This area is characterized by a permanent upwelling and is among the highly productive ecosystems of the worldwide ocean. The diet of T. trachurus was studied through qualitative and quantitative analysis of stomach contents. Samples were collected during the warm (June-July-August) and the cold seasons (November-December) in 2007 and 2008. Acoustic surveys were carried out on board of the Moroccan Amir Moulay Abdellah and the Russian Atlantida oceanographic vessels. A total of 456 stomachs were analyzed, exhibiting a diversified food spectrum. According to the results of the index of relative importance (\%IRI), which takes into account weight, number and frequency of occurrence, the pelagic crustaceans (\%IRI = 80.15\%), mainly Copepoda, are considered the preferential prey for T. trachurus. Molluscs (\%IRI = 16.76\%) are secondary prey and fishes (\%IRI = 2.91\%) are complementary prey while Siphonophora, Chaetognatha, Appendicularian and Annelids polycheata are accidental prey (\%IRI {\textless} 1\%). It is argued that the extent to which other parties respond to, rather than ignore, the issue mobilisation of green parties depends on two factors: how much of an electoral threat the green party poses to a specific party; and the extent to which the political and economic context makes the green issue a potential vote winner. OBJECTIVE: In order to test the validity of the probabilistic method in routine pharmacovigilance, results provided by the Naranjo and Liverpool algorithms, as well as the updated probabilistic method, were each compared with a consensual expert judgement taken as reference. METHODS: A sample of 59 drug-event pairs randomly sampled from spontaneous reports to the French pharmacovigilance system was assessed by expert judgement until reaching consensus and by members of a pharmacovigilance unit using the updated probabilistic method, the Naranjo and Liverpool algorithms. Probabilities given by the probabilistic method, and categories obtained by both the Naranjo and the Liverpool algorithms were compared as well as their sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values. RESULTS: The median probability for drug causation given by the consensual expert judgement was 0.70 (inter-quartile range, IQR 0.54-0.84) versus 0.77 (IQR 0.54-0.91) for the probabilistic method. For the Naranjo algorithm, the 'possible' causality category was predominant (61 \%), followed by 'probable' (35 \%), 'doubtful', and 'almost certain' categories (2 \% each). Category distribution obtained with the Liverpool algorithm was similar to that obtained by the Naranjo algorithm with a majority of 'possible' (61 \%) and 'probable' (30 \%) followed by 'definite' (7 \%) and 'unlikely' (2 \%). For the probabilistic method, sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values were 0.96, 0.56, 0.92 and 0.71, respectively. For the Naranjo algorithm, depending on whether the 'possible' category was considered in favour or in disfavour of drug causation, sensitivity was, respectively, 1 or 0.42, specificity 0.11 or 0.89, negative predictive value 1 or 0.22 and positive predictive value 0.86 or 0.95; results were identical for the Liverpool algorithm. CONCLUSION: The logistic probabilistic method gave results closer to the consensual expert judgment than either the Naranjo or Liverpool algorithms whose performance were strongly dependent on the meaning given to the 'possible' category. Owing to its good sensitivity and positive predictive value and by providing results as continuous probabilities, the probabilistic method seems worthy to use for a trustable assessment of adverse drug reactions in routine practice.}, language = {eng}, number = {10}, journal = {Drug Safety}, author = {Théophile, Hélène and André, Manon and Miremont-Salamé, Ghada and Arimone, Yannick and Bégaud, Bernard}, month = oct, year = {2013}, pmid = {23828659}, keywords = {Adolescent, Adult, Adverse Drug Reaction Reporting Systems, Aged, Aged, 80 and over, Algorithms, Child, Preschool, Consensus, Drug-Related Side Effects and Adverse Reactions, Expert Testimony, Female, France, Humans, Infant, Judgment, Logistic Models, Male, Middle Aged, Pharmaceutical Preparations, Pharmacovigilance, Sensitivity and Specificity}, pages = {1033--1044} }

Although some studies point out that elements related to values and the willingness to achieve social goals are also relevant to explaining party preference in those situations, a general model of how these considerations influence support for electoral reform is still missing. To fill this gap, I develop in this article a policy-seeking model accounting for values-related factors and operationalize it using one of the most firmly established effects of electoral systems in the literature: The degree of inclusiveness and its consequences for the representation of social groups in parliament. The empirical relevance of this model is then tested using an original dataset reporting the actual position of 115 parties facing 22 electoral reform proposals in OECD countries since 1961. The results show that willingness to favour the electoral system most in line with a party's electoral platform has a unique explanatory power over party support for a more proportional electoral system. In turn, values appear to be as crucial as party self-interest in explaining the overall electoral reform story. First, globalization can be expected to spark support for welfare policies as compensation for globalization's risks, but given the constituencies and traditions of parties, this applies more for left than for right or other parties. Second, this dynamic is different for immigration than for trade or investment because migration poses fiscal pressures and threats to solidarity that can dampen enthusiasm for welfare compensation and spark calls for welfare retrenchment. The storms that periodically hit the coast can generate strong swells and storm surges. Most beach resorts, built on a low elevation dune ridge, are periodically flooded during major storms. Although risks zoning regulations take into consideration coastal flood hazards, the delineation of vulnerable areas is still insufficient and the commonly accepted threshold is regularly exceeded during most severe storms. This paper presents a method to improve the assessment of extreme storm-related water levels. It relies on fieldwork carried out in the Leucate commune (Aude), which is particularly exposed to the risk of sea level rise. It considers both storm surges and wave phenomena that occur within the surf zone (set-up and swash), calculated from the Simulating WAves Nearshore (SWAN®) numerical wave model and the Stockdon formula. Water levels reached during several recent storm events have been reconstructed and simulations of submerged areas were carried out by numerical modelling. Résumé La submersion marine représente un risque notable sur les rivages du Languedoc-Roussillon. Les tempêtes qui frappent périodiquement ce littoral peuvent engendrer de fortes houles et surcotes marégraphiques. La plupart des stations balnéaires, édifiées sur un cordon littoral sableux de faible altitude, sont périodiquement inondées lors des grandes tempêtes. La réglementation en vigueur prend pourtant en compte cet aléa dans le zonage de l’occupation du sol. Mais le seuil retenu pour délimiter les zones vulnérables est insuffisant. Overall, 33.3\% of anomalies were lethal (e.g. anencephaly), 25.2\% were expected to result in isolated mental retardation (e.g. Down) and 35.1\% in substantial handicap (e.g. myelomeningocele). In 6.4\% of cases, the anomaly was either of late onset (e.g. Huntington's disease) or with uncertain prognosis (e.g. agenesis of corpus callosum) or severity was debatable (e.g. single limb agenesis, sickle cell disease). CONCLUSIONS: Although there is no indisputable definition of which anomalies are 'severe', 93.6\% of the decisions to terminate the pregnancy were made by women and professionals in reaction to anomalies which clearly were lethal or would lead to substantial physical and/or mental disabilities.}, author = {Dommergues, Marc and Mandelbrot, Laurent and Mahieu-Caputo, Dominique and Boudjema, Noel and Durand-Zaleski, Isabelle}, doi = {10.1002/pd.2510}, file = {:C$\backslash$:/Users/emnicolas/AppData/Local/Mendeley Ltd./Mendeley Desktop/Downloaded/Dommergues et al. - 2010 - Termination of pregnancy following prenatal diagnosis in France how severe are the foetal anomalies.pdf:pdf}, issn = {1097-0223}, journal = {Prenatal diagnosis}, keywords = {Abortion,Congenital Abnormalities,Congenital Abnormalities: diagnosis,Congenital Abnormalities: epidemiology,Congenital Abnormalities: etiology,Counseling,Counseling: statistics \& numerical data,Counseling: utilization,Eugenic,Eugenic: ethics,Eugenic: statistics \& numerical data,Eugenic: utilization,Female,France,France: epidemiology,Geography,Gestational Age,Humans,Infant,Live Birth,Live Birth: epidemiology,Newborn,Pregnancy,Prenatal Diagnosis,Prenatal Diagnosis: statistics \& numerical data,Prenatal Diagnosis: utilization,Severity of Illness Index}, month = jun, number = {6}, pages = {531--9}, pmid = {20509152}, title = {{Termination of pregnancy following prenatal diagnosis in France: how severe are the foetal anomalies?}}, url = {http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/pd.2510/full http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20509152}, volume = {30}, year = {2010} }

Building upon a growing body of literature that explores the concept of valence, we develop a valid measure of valence based upon content analysis of Keesing's Record of World Events that scores parties along three valence dimensions – competence, integrity, and unity/division. The results of regression analyses designed to test this relationship for parties in nine Western European democracies are reported, and suggest that the answer to the first question posed above is yes. Specifically, evidence is found that events such as political scandals and party divisions cause parties to lose vote share, and that these effects are both statistically and substantively significant. A relation between lipidic metabolism of genotypes and the distribution of this metal in biological material was found. Domestic ducks were little contaminated, but a low chronic contamination in Cd was observed, probably coming from the food. Due to the low levels of contamination observed in these breeding ducks, they can be considered as a good control for further contamination studies and comparison with accumulation levels recorded in the field. Glycemic variability seems to have more deleterious effects than sustained hyperglycemia in the development of diabetic complications as both upward (postprandial glucose increments) and downward (interprandial glucose decrements) changes activate the oxidative stress. For instance, the urinary excretion rate of 8-iso-PGF2alpha, a reliable marker of oxidative stress, was found to be strongly, positively correlated (r = 0.86, p < .001) with glycemic variability assessed from the mean amplitude of glycemic excursions (MAGE) as estimated by continuous glucose monitoring systems (CGMS). These observations therefore raise the question of whether we have the appropriate tools for assessing glycemic variability in clinical practice. From a statistical point of view, the standard deviation (SD) around the mean glucose value appears as the "gold standard." By contrast, the MAGE index is probably more appropriate for selecting the major glucose swings that are calculated as the arithmetic mean of differences between consecutive peaks and nadirs, provided that the differences be greater than the SD around the mean values. Furthermore, calculating the MAGE index requires continuous glucose monitoring, which has the advantage to detect all isolated upward and downward acute glucose fluctuations. In conclusion, the increasing use of CGMSs will certainly promote better assessment and management of glycemic variability.}, bibtype = {article}, author = {Monnier, Louis and Colette, Claude and Owens, David R}, journal = {Journal of diabetes science and technology (Online)} }

METHODS The study was carried out in a prison for detained persons and short term prisoners. Using a standardized questionnaire, we recorded the characteristics of all male detainees and prisoners arriving in the prison between 1989 and 1995. The information collected concerned: demographic data, level of education and professional status, reasons for detention or imprisonment, social and family background, lifestyle, medical and psychiatric history, suicide attempts and illicit use of drugs. The characteristics of the study population were compared with those found in the general regional population. We analyzed developing trends in the health status of the prison population as well as their socio-economic profile over a period of seven years (1989 to 1995). RESULTS A total of 14,785 questionnaires were analyzed. Of the study population, 56\% had no professional qualification, and 62\% was unemployed. About two-thirds of the inmates presented psychiatric problems or problems with illicit drug use (one or several drugs). Amongst these, 70\% had not had any form of care -neither therapeutic nor educational- before their arrival in prison. Between 1989 and 1995, the proportion of drug users increased by 30\%. A parallel increase was observed in the level of unemployment and in the frequency of mental problems. CONCLUSIONS Our results suggest a need for therapeutic and educational care to be provided for prison inmates. This poses a problem which needs to be addressed in terms of public health. DESIGN: Cross sectional surveys. SETTING: Maternity units. POPULATION: Two representative national samples of births including 5410 newborns in 1981 and 13318 in 1995. METHOD: Univariate analysis and logistic regression analysis. RESULTS: The overall rate of caesarean section rose from 10.7\% in 1981 to 15.3\% in 1995. This trend is mainly attributable to the increases in the proportion of previously sectioned women (from 4.1\% to 8.2\%) and in caesarean sections for primiparae (from 12.6\% to 17.8\%). Among primiparae several maternal risk factors such as late childbearing and obesity before pregnancy were more frequent in 1995 than in 1981. The increase in caesarean sections affected both the high risk group (25.4\% to 32.4\%) and the low risk group (8.1\% to 12.0\%). The brain may control complex movements through flexible combination of motor primitives, where each primitive is an element of computation in the sensorimotor map that transforms desired limb trajectories into motor commands. Theoretical studies have shown that a system's ability to learn action depends on the shape of its primitives. Using a time-series analysis of error patterns, here we show that humans learn the dynamics of reaching movements through a flexible combination of primitives that have gaussian-like tuning functions encoding hand velocity. The wide tuning of the inferred primitives predicts limitations on the brain's ability to represent viscous dynamics. Short GCG expansions in the poly(A) binding protein 2 (PABP2) gene were identified recently as the molecular basis for OPMD in French-Canadians. All French-Canadian cases of OPMD have been traced to a single founder couple [Bouchard, 1997: Neuromuscul Disord 7(Suppl):S5-S11]. Cultural links between French-Canadians and Cajuns suggest that this same founder couple may have transmitted the OPMD mutation to Cajuns as well. To determine if OPMD patients from Louisiana share a founder effect with French-Canadian families, we collected blood samples and muscle biopsies from several Cajuns with OPMD for mutation and linkage studies. We found a unique 'GCA GCG GCG' insertion mutation in Cajuns. Consistent with these sequence data, we identified a disease haplotype in our Cajun families that is different from the ancestral haplotype defined in French-Canadians. These data prove that different founders introduced the PABP2 mutation to Cajuns and French-Canadians and lend support to emerging genealogical data suggesting that French-Canadians and Cajuns represent distinct immigrant groups from France.}, bibtype = {article}, author = {Scacheri, P C and Garcia, C and Hébert, R and Hoffman, E P and Hebert, R}, journal = {Am J Med Genet}, number = {5} }

Using FM ramps of 2.0 kHz excursion and varying centre frequency, each of 39 neurones was examined for its preference for the direction of frequency change of a ramp whose centre frequency was varied in and around the neurone's response area. Direction preference was strictly associated with the slopes of the cell's spike count-versus-frequency function over the frequency range covered by the ramp. Preferences for upward- and downward-directed ramps were associated with the low- and high-frequency slopes of the spike count function, respectively. The strength of the cell's direction preference was associated with the relative steepness of the spike count function over the frequency range covered by the ramp. The timing of discharges elicited by the frequency modulations was found to be the sum of the cell's latent period for tone bursts plus the time after ramp onset that the stimulus frequency fell within the neurone's response area. The implications of these data for the processing of narrow and broad frequency-modulated ramps are discussed.}, keywords = {Computing Methodologies, Human, Language, Learning, Mental Processes, Models, Theoretical, Stochastic Processes, Support, U.S. Gov't, Non-P.H.S., Cognition, Linguistics, Neural Networks (Computer), Practice (Psychology), Non-U.S. Gov't, Memory, Psychological, Task Performance and Analysis, Time Factors, Visual Perception, Adult, Attention, Discrimination Learning, Female, Male, Short-Term, Mental Recall, Orientation, Pattern Recognition, Visual, Perceptual Masking, Reading, Concept Formation, Form Perception, Animals, Corpus Striatum, Shrews, P.H.S., Visual Cortex, Visual Pathways, Acoustic Stimulation, Auditory Cortex, Auditory Perception, Cochlea, Ear, Gerbillinae, Glycine, Hearing, Neurons, Space Perception, Strychnine, Adolescent, Decision Making, Reaction Time, Astrocytoma, Brain Mapping, Brain Neoplasms, Cerebral Cortex, Electric Stimulation, Electrophysiology, Epilepsy, Temporal Lobe, Evoked Potentials, Frontal Lobe, Noise, Parietal Lobe, Scalp, Child, Language Development, Psycholinguistics, Brain, Perception, Speech, Vocalization, Animal, Discrimination (Psychology), Hippocampus, Rats, Calcium, Chelating Agents, Excitatory Postsynaptic Potentials, Glutamic Acid, Guanosine Diphosphate, In Vitro, Neuronal Plasticity, Pyramidal Cells, Receptors, AMPA, Metabotropic Glutamate, N-Methyl-D-Aspartate, Somatosensory Cortex, Synapses, Synaptic Transmission, Thionucleotides, Action Potentials, Calcium Channels, L-Type, Electric Conductivity, Entorhinal Cortex, Neurological, Long-Evans, Infant, Mathematics, Statistics, Probability Learning, Problem Solving, Psychophysics, Association Learning, Child Psychology, Habituation (Psychophysiology), Probability Theory, Analysis of Variance, Semantics, Symbolism, Behavior, Eye Movements, Macaca mulatta, Prefrontal Cortex, Cats, Dogs, Haplorhini, Photic Stimulation, Electroencephalography, Nervous System Physiology, Darkness, Grasshoppers, Light, Membrane Potentials, Neural Inhibition, Afferent, Picrotoxin, Vision, Deoxyglucose, Injections, Microspheres, Neural Pathways, Rhodamines, Choice Behavior, Speech Perception, Verbal Learning, Dominance, Cerebral, Fixation, Ocular, Language Tests, Random Allocation, Comparative Study, Saguinus, Sound Spectrography, Species Specificity, Audiometry, Auditory Threshold, Calibration, Data Interpretation, Statistical, Anesthesia, General, Electrodes, Implanted, Pitch Perception, Sound Localization, Paired-Associate Learning, Serial Learning, Auditory, Age Factors, Motion Perception, Brain Injuries, Computer Simulation, Blindness, Psychomotor Performance, Color Perception, Signal Detection (Psychology), Judgment, ROC Curve, Regression Analysis, Music, Probability, Arm, Cerebrovascular Disorders, Hemiplegia, Movement, Muscle, Skeletal, Myoclonus, Robotics, Magnetoencephalography, Phonetics, Software, Speech Production Measurement, Epilepsies, Partial, Laterality, Stereotaxic Techniques, Germany, Speech Acoustics, Verbal Behavior, Child Development, Instinct, Brain Stem, Coma, Diagnosis, Differential, Hearing Disorders, Hearing Loss, Central, Neuroma, Acoustic, Dendrites, Down-Regulation, Patch-Clamp Techniques, Wistar, Up-Regulation, Aged, Aphasia, Middle Aged, Cones (Retina), Primates, Retina, Retinal Ganglion Cells, Tympanic Membrane, Cell Communication, Extremities, Biological, Motor Activity, Rana catesbeiana, Spinal Cord, Central Nervous System, Motion, Motor Cortex, Intelligence, Macaca fascicularis, Adoption, Critical Period (Psychology), France, Korea, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Multilingualism, Auditory Pathways, Cochlear Nerve, Loudness Perception, Neural Conduction, 4007088}, }

Field P neurons had narrow, V-shaped, threshold frequency tuning curves. At suprathreshold levels, spike counts were generally greatest at frequencies at or close to the neuron's threshold best frequency (BF). Eighty-six percent of posterior-field neurons displayed spike counts that were a nonmonotonic function of the intensity of a BF tone. Of these, over 90\% showed at least a 50\% reduction in spike count at high stimulus levels, and almost 20\% of nonmonotonic cells ceased responding entirely at high stimulus intensities. The nonmonotonic shape of spike count-versus-intensity profiles was typically preserved across the range of frequencies to which any given neuron was responsive. For some neurons, this had the consequence of generating a completely circumscribed frequency-intensity response area. That is, these neurons responded to a tonal stimulus only if the stimulus was within a restricted range of both frequency and intensity. These response areas showed internal organizations that appeared to reflect one or both of two processes. For some neurons, the optimal sound pressure level for spike counts varied with tone frequency, roughly paralleling the threshold tuning curve. For other neurons, the optimal sound pressure level tended to be constant across frequency despite threshold variations of up to 20 dB. The minimum response latencies of posterior-field neurons were generally in the range of 20-50 ms, while cells in the primary auditory cortex (AI) in the same animals generally had minimum latent periods of less than 20 ms. Comparison of these data with those previously presented for neurons in two other cortical auditory fields suggests that the cat's auditory cortex might show an interfield segregation of neurons according to their coding properties.}, keywords = {Computing Methodologies, Human, Language, Learning, Mental Processes, Models, Theoretical, Stochastic Processes, Support, U.S. Gov't, Non-P.H.S., Cognition, Linguistics, Neural Networks (Computer), Practice (Psychology), Non-U.S. Gov't, Memory, Psychological, Task Performance and Analysis, Time Factors, Visual Perception, Adult, Attention, Discrimination Learning, Female, Male, Short-Term, Mental Recall, Orientation, Pattern Recognition, Visual, Perceptual Masking, Reading, Concept Formation, Form Perception, Animals, Corpus Striatum, Shrews, P.H.S., Visual Cortex, Visual Pathways, Acoustic Stimulation, Auditory Cortex, Auditory Perception, Cochlea, Ear, Gerbillinae, Glycine, Hearing, Neurons, Space Perception, Strychnine, Adolescent, Decision Making, Reaction Time, Astrocytoma, Brain Mapping, Brain Neoplasms, Cerebral Cortex, Electric Stimulation, Electrophysiology, Epilepsy, Temporal Lobe, Evoked Potentials, Frontal Lobe, Noise, Parietal Lobe, Scalp, Child, Language Development, Psycholinguistics, Brain, Perception, Speech, Vocalization, Animal, Discrimination (Psychology), Hippocampus, Rats, Calcium, Chelating Agents, Excitatory Postsynaptic Potentials, Glutamic Acid, Guanosine Diphosphate, In Vitro, Neuronal Plasticity, Pyramidal Cells, Receptors, AMPA, Metabotropic Glutamate, N-Methyl-D-Aspartate, Somatosensory Cortex, Synapses, Synaptic Transmission, Thionucleotides, Action Potentials, Calcium Channels, L-Type, Electric Conductivity, Entorhinal Cortex, Neurological, Long-Evans, Infant, Mathematics, Statistics, Probability Learning, Problem Solving, Psychophysics, Association Learning, Child Psychology, Habituation (Psychophysiology), Probability Theory, Analysis of Variance, Semantics, Symbolism, Behavior, Eye Movements, Macaca mulatta, Prefrontal Cortex, Cats, Dogs, Haplorhini, Photic Stimulation, Electroencephalography, Nervous System Physiology, Darkness, Grasshoppers, Light, Membrane Potentials, Neural Inhibition, Afferent, Picrotoxin, Vision, Deoxyglucose, Injections, Microspheres, Neural Pathways, Rhodamines, Choice Behavior, Speech Perception, Verbal Learning, Dominance, Cerebral, Fixation, Ocular, Language Tests, Random Allocation, Comparative Study, Saguinus, Sound Spectrography, Species Specificity, Audiometry, Auditory Threshold, Calibration, Data Interpretation, Statistical, Anesthesia, General, Electrodes, Implanted, Pitch Perception, Sound Localization, Paired-Associate Learning, Serial Learning, Auditory, Age Factors, Motion Perception, Brain Injuries, Computer Simulation, Blindness, Psychomotor Performance, Color Perception, Signal Detection (Psychology), Judgment, ROC Curve, Regression Analysis, Music, Probability, Arm, Cerebrovascular Disorders, Hemiplegia, Movement, Muscle, Skeletal, Myoclonus, Robotics, Magnetoencephalography, Phonetics, Software, Speech Production Measurement, Epilepsies, Partial, Laterality, Stereotaxic Techniques, Germany, Speech Acoustics, Verbal Behavior, Child Development, Instinct, Brain Stem, Coma, Diagnosis, Differential, Hearing Disorders, Hearing Loss, Central, Neuroma, Acoustic, Dendrites, Down-Regulation, Patch-Clamp Techniques, Wistar, Up-Regulation, Aged, Aphasia, Middle Aged, Cones (Retina), Primates, Retina, Retinal Ganglion Cells, Tympanic Membrane, Cell Communication, Extremities, Biological, Motor Activity, Rana catesbeiana, Spinal Cord, Central Nervous System, Motion, Motor Cortex, Intelligence, Macaca fascicularis, Adoption, Critical Period (Psychology), France, Korea, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Multilingualism, Auditory Pathways, Cochlear Nerve, Loudness Perception, 6693932}, }

Il vécut cependant. Elle raconta qu’elle était mariée, mais qu’elle ne pouvait se charger du petit et elle le laissa chez des voisins qui promirent d’en avoir bien soin. Elle revint. With local stakeholders in the Pyrenees National Park area (France), we studied agricultural landscape colonisation by ash (Fraxinus excelsior) to enlighten its impacts on biodiversity and other landscape functions of importance for the valley socio-economics. The study comprised an integrated assessment of land-use and land-cover change (LUCC) since the 1950s, and a scenario analysis of alternative future policy. We combined knowledge and methods from landscape ecology, land change and agricultural sciences, and a set of coordinated field studies to capture interactions and feedback in the local landscape/land-use system. Our results elicited the hierarchically-nested relationships between social and ecological processes. Agricultural change played a preeminent role in the spatial and temporal patterns of LUCC. Landscape colonisation by ash at the parcel level of organisation was merely controlled by grassland management, and in fact depended on the farmer's land management at the whole-farm level. LUCC patterns at the landscape level depended to a great extent on interactions between farm household behaviours and the spatial arrangement of landholdings within the landscape mosaic. Our results stressed the need to represent the local SES function at a fine scale to adequately capture scenarios of change in landscape functions. These findings orientated our modelling choices in the building an agent-based model for LUCC simulation (SMASH-Spatialized Multi-Agent System of landscape colonization by ASH). In the Alps, forest vulnerability to fire resulting from interactions between climate, fuel types, vegetation structure and tree resistance to fire is little understood. This paper aims at identifying trends in the vulnerability of Alpine forest ecosystems to fire at different scales (tree species, stand level and biogeographic level) and according to three different climatic conditions (cold season, average summer and extremely dry summer). To explore Alpine forest vulnerability to fire, we used surface fuel measurements, forest inventory and fire weather data to simulate fire behaviour and ultimately post-fire tree mortality across 4438 forest plots in the French Alps. The results showed that cold season fires (about 50\% of the fires in the French Alps) have a limited impact except on low-elevation forests of the Southern Alps (mainly Oak, Scots pine). In average summer conditions, mixed and broadleaved forests of low elevations suffer the highest mortality rates (up to 75\% in coppices). Finally, summer fires occurring in extremely dry conditions promote high mortality across all forest communities. Lowest mortality rates were observed in high forest stands composed of tree species presenting adaptation to surface fires (e.g. thick bark, high canopy) such as Larch forests of the internal Alps. This study provides insights on the vulnerability of the main tree species and forest ecosystems of the French Alps useful for the adaptation of forest management practices to climate changes.}, keywords = {~INRMM-MiD:z-QCN3YHET,abies-alba,alpine-region,fagus-sylvatica,forest-fires,forest-resources,france,larix-decidua,picea-abies,pinus-cembra,pinus-nigra,pinus-sylvestris,pinus-uncinata,quercus-petraea,quercus-pubescens,quercus-robur,quercus-spp,vulnerability,wildfires}, langid = {english} }

This study analyses daily synoptic and local weather conditions associated with the occurrence of summer large fires (LFs) in Mediterranean France during recent decades (1973-2013). The links between large fire occurrence and synoptic conditions are analysed with composites of sea level pressure and winds at 925 hPa and a parsimonious synoptic weather type (WT) classification based on these variables. A cluster analysis is used to identify five homogeneous regions with similar inter-annual variations in fire activity. Our results reveal a dominant wind-driven fire regime, i.e. wind conditions are the main factor explaining why fire become large, though substantial temporal and spatial variations are observed. Thus, most LFs occur under the 'Atlantic Ridge' WT that combines an anticyclonic ridge over eastern Atlantic and a cyclonic anomaly stretched from the North Sea to Central/Eastern Europe and Mediterranean basin. This pattern is significantly related at local scale to fast continental dry winds. By contrast, only few LFs occur under WTs characterized by anomalously warm local-scale conditions ('Blocking'), except under very warm and dry conditions such as during the outstanding 2003 summer. These results offer promising developments for the improvement of fire danger predictions and operational management.}, keywords = {*imported-from-citeulike-INRMM,~INRMM-MiD:c-14460406,~to-add-doi-URL,extreme-events,extreme-weather,fire-regimes,forest-fires,forest-resources,france,wildfires,wind}, number = {1} }

The {POM} pool experiences thus considerable spatial and temporal variability. In order to better understand this variability, the present study employs statistical multivariate analyses to investigate links between {POM} composition and environmental forcings for a panel of twelve coastal systems distributed along the three maritime regions of France and monitored weekly to monthly for 1 to 8 years. At multi-system scale, two main gradients of {POC} composition have been identified: a ‘Continent-Ocean’ gradient associated with hydrodynamics, sedimentary dynamics and depth of the water column, and a gradient of trophic status related to nutrient availability. At local scale, seasonality of {POC} composition appears to be station-specific but still related to part of the above-mentioned forcings. A typology of systems was established by coupling spatial and temporal variability of {POC} composition. Four groups were highlighted: (1) the estuarine stations where {POC} composition is dominated by terrestrial {POM} and driven by hydrodynamics and sedimentary processes, (2) the oligotrophic systems, characterized by the contribution of diazotrophs due to low nutrient availability, and the marine meso/eutroph systems whose {POC} composition is (3) either deeply dominated by phytoplankton or (4) dominated by phytoplankton but where the contribution of continental and benthic {POC} is not negligible and is driven by hydrodynamics, sedimentary processes and the height of the water column. Finally, the present study provides several insights into the different forcings to {POM} composition and dynamics in temperate coastal systems at local and multi-system scales. To assess the ecological consequences of its recent expansion, the pattern of population dynamics of H. nirae was determined from January 2010 to March 2011 at a 29 m deep station in the Bay of Concarneau with a sampling interval of ca. 3 weeks (23 sampling dates). Modal analysis of size-frequency distribution at each date was used to describe the life cycle and the population dynamics of H. nirae, and to estimate the annual secondary production using the increment summation method. We showed that H. nirae is a semelparous species exhibiting a biannual life cycle with a lifespan ranging from 24 to 28 months. The recruitment was extremely high in 2010 and occurred between January and April but most recruits arrived at the end of March. Recruits are produced by two year old individuals, which die shortly after hatching. Female densities were low in winter. Females produced only one brood during their lifetime with an average brood size of 29. H. nirae secondary production was estimated at 9.66 {gDW} m−2 y−1 and the production to biomass ratio (P/B¯) was 2.26 y−1. Results are compared with previous published data on other Ampeliscid amphipods. The biannual life cycle appears unusual for most of Ampeliscidae except for the genus Haploops where a biannual life cycle appears characteristic of this genus. The secondary production calculated for H. nirae was high compared to other biannual Ampeliscidae species and constituted one of the highest production values calculated for an Ampeliscid.}, pages = {259--271}, journaltitle = {Estuarine, Coastal and Shelf Science}, shortjournal = {Estuarine, Coastal and Shelf Science}, author = {Rigolet, Carinne and Dubois, Stanislas F. and Droual, Gabin and Caisey, Xavier and Thiébaut, Eric}, urldate = {2019-04-16}, date = {2012-11-10}, keywords = {ampeliscidae, Brittany, France, muddy habitat, population dynamics, reproduction} }
